Commitments & Partnerships

An important part of the Second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference will be voluntary commitments, partnerships and other initiatives that seek to raise ambition on sustainable transport from member States, UN System entities, the private sector, local and regional governments, and other stakeholders. Through such initiatives, the Conference seeks to:

  • Encourage increased ambition in areas of strategic importance for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement in the transport sector;
  • Mobilize influential actors within sub-sectors to encourage commitments or reinforce existing ones of high impacts, building on existing networks and relationships;
  • Keep the momentum created in relevant United Nations meetings/conferences, such as the Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit in 2019, the High-Level Dialogue on Energy in 2021, amongst others, and to feed into subsequent events, such as the COP26 on climate change in 2021 and the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in 2022.

The UN Secretariat has developed an online registry to collect information about ongoing and new commitments and showcase inspiring initiatives by all actors that advance sustainable transport in ways that are in line with the SDGs and the Paris Agreement.  Please, submit your sustainable transport commitment here
